Have you ever wanted to be a member of
the royal family? You are if you have accepted Jesus Christ into
your heart and life. You are joint heirs with Jesus Christ and
sons of God (Rom 8:17).
God is wonderful and He enjoys having
fellowship with us. As we mature in our relationship with God so
should our prayer life become more mature. Now that you know His
power and reputation how can you access this powerhouse? You
approach His throne as you would an earthly king or queen.
1. Enter His gates with thanksgiving. Be grateful always.
This can be done in song. This we can do without ceasing.
Ps 100:4
Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
You have just entered through the
gates of heaven. You will soon be arriving at His court.
2. Proceed to His courts with praise. We must
praise Him for who He is and acknowledge His kindness, justice,
and righteousness.
As you reflect on Gods amazing and awesome attributes, your
faith and trust will grow.
3. Pray for God’s will. This will be perfect although not
always easy. Remember to trust and know that He knows what He is
doing all the time. We must also remember that the Spirit
intercedes for us in accordance with God’s will.
Romans 8:26-27
26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do
not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself
intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with
God's will.
You will find it easier to pray for God’s will when you realize
who you are learning to trust and building a relationship with
God.
4. Ask for protection. As you read in Psalms 91 He has
angels who watch over you. Also, He protects you.
Psalms 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."
5. Ask for His provisions. He will give them to you but
how courteous is it of you if you ask. I love it when my
children ask first. God loves it when we ask as well. God is a
loving father and wants to give us one of His greatest gifts the
Holy Spirit as it says in Luke.
Luke 11:11-13
11"Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give
him a snake instead?
12Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts
to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give
the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
In the Lord’s Prayer Jesus also asks
for daily bread. So God not only wants us to ask for the Holy
Spirit we can also ask for our physical needs.
6. Don’t need an invitation but we must be prepared. We
are part of the new covenant so our invitation is always
available. We do not bring an animal to sacrifice for our sins.
We cover ourselves with the blood of Jesus Christ. When we
approach the throne we must be prepared to meet our father God.
He is righteous so we must present ourselves righteous by the
blood of Jesus Christ.
7. Bring your petition before the throne. My petition is
to always seek His face. I want to know Him more each and
everyday. Outside influences or feelings do not dictate my
relationship. My God is my friend.
The best way to explain this is to
visualize in your mind that you are entering the temple or
throne of God. Moses built the first temple for God. God gave
Him every fine detail of this plan. There was the outer court,
inner court and the Holy of Holies where the Ark of the Covenant
was placed. Only the priests entered the Holy of Holies and this
was only once a year.
When Jesus Christ sacrificed himself
on the tree, the Holy of Holies veil was torn from top to bottom
(Matt 27:51). So, we enter the holy of holies when we pray to
God. This is truly amazing, awesome, and wonderful. What a
wonderful throne. You have been given direct access to His
throne.
Have you ever heard of the song “I can
only imagine”? It is a song that depicts what we might do when
we reach heaven. It asks “will we dance for Jesus or in awe of
you be still, will we stand in your presence or to our knees
will we fall, will we sing hallelujah or be able to speak at all
I can only imagine”
Every moment you are given the opportunity to come before the
throne of God. What do you do? You don’t have to imagine because
if you believe you are in front of the throne of God when you
pray you already know what you do.
God invites us to visit Him. We come
before His throne when we pray. Also, Read the “The Lord’s
Prayer” (Matt. 6:9-13, Luke 11:2-4). It covers the areas that we
have mentioned above.
Matthew 6:9-13
9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
(Proceed to His courts with praise)
10Thy kingdom come, Thy
will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
(Pray for God’s will)
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
(Ask for His provisions)
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
(We making sure we are cleansed by
the blood of Christ by making sure that we ask for forgiveness
for our sins)
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil :
( ask for God’s protection and
petition) for thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
